  abstract  = {Nearly all German films are produced primarily with government grants. The German market is too small to enable refinancing itself. Therefore it is important to find alternative financing models. The Fiscal Sponsorship Program, which is a common method to raise funding for nonprofit projects in the United States of America, such as non-fiction films, could be a new way of receiving funds for documentary films in Germany. This thesis will answer the question of whether Fiscal Sponsorship is legally possible in Germany. It will also explain why applying for government grants is such a complicated procedure and what advantages Fiscal Sponsorship could have over state grants.},
