However, the components of the network may fail - by targeted attacks or by wearout. While targeted attacks are non-random, it seems appropriate to consider wearout effects as random. Further we can assume that the components fail independently. The task of network reliability is to analyze networks in respect to the functionality of the network with consideration of wearout of its components.
