- The use of manufacturing machines for the production of items in one-off is currently often not economical for small and medium enterprises. The reasons for this are, on the one hand, the high investment costs and, in addition, the necessary retooling and adaptation processes, which usually have to be carried out manually. On the other hand, there is the current shortage of skilled workers, which makes efficient use of the available human resources necessary. Using an innovative part-to-tool concept this article develops an approach to make the machine production of individual parts practicable for small companies in wood construction. A 6-axis articulated arm robot is equipped so that it can carry out all production steps and at the same time take over the component handling for loading and unloading. Through the connection to a higher-level control level and the connection to a user interface, unskilled workers can configure individual parts and have them manufactured automatically.
