Geklonte Schauspieler - die Erschaffung von Doppelgängern im Film : eine Analyse der Verfahrensweisen

cloned actors - the creation of doppelgangers in films : an analysis of different methods

  • During creation of this bachelor thesis, the author focused on the visualization of doppelgangers in films and the technical creation of this visual-effect by digital compositing. Central aspect was the classification of the different methods in terms of effort, quality and efficiency. The analyzed techniques included split screen, keying, rotoscoping, digital face replacement and the use of a motion control system. These techniques were described based on their theoretical principle combined with film examples. The evaluation of the methods was supported by expert’s opinion. It became obvious that each method fulfills different requirements and is therefore used weighing requirements of the scene and the effort respectively cost for using the method. For example, splitscreen technique being the cheapest one but fairly limited when it comes to physical interactions between the doppelgangers. In contradiction, face replacement was identified as very helpful for scenes with much interaction but also very costly as it requires much effort in both shooting and post-production. Being aware of this interconnection, this bachelor thesis can be used to analyze the desired scene and decide for a doppelganger method by weighing the effortbenefit equation.
