Mass Phenomenon Esports : what is the Economic Potential behind Electronic Sports?
- This bachelor thesis reflects upon the mass phenomenon of e-sports, focusing on the economical potential behind this new kind of sports. Despite increasing popularity within the digital world, most of the people in the analogue western world still do not know what e-sports actually is. Instead, this new sports dicipline fights for social and political acknowledgement – even within the traditional sporting community. After the evaluation of relevant literature, statistics, insights as well as current industry and market reports, it becomes obvious that e-sports embodies an enormous economic power that will continue to unleash its potential within the upcoming years. The ecosystem around e-sports will expand. Especially the Asian market – above all China – has recognized the economic potential and proceeds rapidly – whereas Germany is feeling through this e-sport market – still leaving it for the most part up to its sporting community.
