Alpine ski racing - sustainable marketing platform or discontinued model? : a presentation of the challenges for sponsoring and marketing of Alpine ski racing on the basis of interviews with experts

  • The following thesis deals with marketing in winter sports and in particular in alpine ski racing. In order to initiate successful marketing processes in winter sports, it requires not only a sufficient business understanding but also a special understanding of the sport. It requires a certain approach that differs from a normal process suitable for companies. Alpine ski racing is one of the most popular winter sports in Germany, after biathlon and ski jumping. In Switzerland and Austria it even ranks first. Nevertheless, the interest of the population is stagnating and the spectators are getting older and older. There is a necessity to change something and not only to orientate oneself to the existing crowd, but to broaden the view and create a platform that also appeals to and inspires the younger generations. Alpine ski racing has to change or else it will become obsolete. Not only in terms of marketing but also in general.
