Development of the Manufacturing Review Process for the creation of product cost optimisation ideas for Bentley Motors Limited
- Idea management and idea generation to improve current products are a big challenge for every business but they are necessary to make companies more competitive in the economy. The cost saving perspective is an enormous driver in this process. There are different approaches to generate and gather ideas from different people and areas in Manufacturing. This Master Thesis analyses the Manufacturing Review Process from Bentley Motors Ltd., a low volume car manufacturer belonging to the Volkswagen Group. The aim is to investigate, generate, implement and evaluate one process to gather cost-saving ideas from the associates on the build line. The dissertation considers the process theory and the single process in the overall perspective. A selection of ideas is explained to show the different types of ideas and basis for decisions. The Six Sigma theory is used to evaluate the results and identify weak points and improvements. The final statement gives an outlook into the future and basic approaches for further work on this process.
