A Probabilistic Approach to a Collision Avoiding Active Safety System
- An active safety system is developed using a simulation based probabilistic data set. The crash probability estimations are calculated to detect the dangerous situations; then an appropriate reaction is selected and carried out. In order to estimate the crash probability for any given input, several nonparametric methods are tested. The system focuses on highway driving with some simplifying assumptions and is analyzed using various simulations; however it can be generalized to be used in any traffic scenario, if developed further. These possibilities and potential improvements are discussed at the end.
