• In einer Welt, in welcher die Anzahl der mit digitalen Geräten ausgeübten Straf-taten die zuständigen Behörden zu überrollen scheint, ist es an der digitalen Forensik, neue Wege der Verbrechensbekämpfung zu beschreiten. Um eine Viel-zahl an digitalen Spuren auszuwerten, benötigt es außerdem spezialisierter Werkzeuge und Methodiken. Das in Korrelation mit dieser Arbeit entwickelte Programm verfolgt das Ziel, einen bisher manuellen Ablauf in der forensischen Software „X-Ways Forensics“ zu automatisieren und somit Aufwand und Komplexität zu reduzieren. Genauer versucht die sogenannte „X-Tension“, eine Datei vom Dateityp „.vmdk“ innerhalb eines Falles ausfindig zu machen, um diese anschließend als neues für sich stehendes Asservat auswerten zu können. Die Arbeit zeigt dabei die Arbeitsweise des Programmes sowie Chancen für die Zukunft auf.
• In a world where the amount of criminal offenses that are executed with the help of digital devices seems to roll over the responsible authorities, it is the aim of the digital forensic community to lead new ways in the fight against crime. To cope with the huge amount of digital traces there is a need for spe-cialised tools and methods. The program which is correlated to this paper aims at automating an until now manual process inside the forensic software „X-Ways Forensics“ to reduce expenditure and complexity. To be precise, the so called „X-Tension“ tries to find a specific file of the file format „.vmdk“, so it can later be evaluated on its own. Furthermore this piece of work shows the work-ing method of the program as well as chances for the future.
